The Swiss women’s football Euro started on 2 July, hosting ten OL players in various national selections. Among them, Ada Hegerberg and Ingrid Engen represent Norway, a team that had achieved an encouraging course during the group phase with three victories against Switzerland, Finland and Iceland. These results enabled Norway to face Italy, the second in its group, in the quarter-finals. Italy, for its part, had a victory, a draw and a defeat in the group phase.
The quarter final between Norway and Italy, played on Wednesday, saw Italy take the lead at the beginning of the second half thanks to Cristiana Girelli. Ada Hegerberg missed a penalty shortly after, but scored in the 66th minute, scoring his 51st goal with his national team. Despite this equalization, Cristiana Girelli scored the second goal for Italy at the end of the game, sealing the Italian 2-1 win.
Norway’s defeat in the quarter-final ended the hope of winning a third European title, after the victories of 1987 and 1993. Ada Hegerberg and Ingrid Engen played the entire game. The Euro 2025 ends for Norway, after a promising course but finally interrupted by the strength of the Italian team.
