ASSE evaluates its assets before the August championship

The ASSE suffered a 3-2 defeat in its third summer preparation match against the Servette Geneva. Despite this setback, coach Eirik Horneland draws positive lessons from this meeting, especially in terms of collective mastery displayed in the first period, culminating with a goal of Irvin Cardona assisted by Nadir El Jamali. The first half testifies to a good training of the team, but the rhythm then weakened after the break, with the tactical changes of the Genevans upsetting the balance and allowing the opposing team to take the advantage. A reduction in the score at the end of the game by Augustine Boakye, following an opening of Fomba, was not enough to reverse the course of the game.

This meeting allowed Horneland to test its recruits, including Chico Lamba, Maxime Bernauer, Mahmoud Jaber and Irvin Cardona, all of whom were incumbents. The team is gradually emerging, with Mahmoud Jaber making a good impression in the middle of the field alongside Florian Tardieu. In attack, Irvin Cardona and Ben Old are the most used players in this preparation, with Cardona scoring his first goal. Uncertainty persists with respect to the tip, including the availability of Lucas Staasins and Djyliian Ngessa, as well as the potential of future recruit Joshua Duffus. Defence remains an area of concern, despite the strength of the central hinge Chico Lamba - Maxime Bernauer.

As the championship begins in three weeks, ASSE plans to gradually increase the game time of its players in the next two friendly games against Paris FC and Cagliari. The goal is to physically prepare key players for the August 9 kick-off, while increasing the intensity of training. This preparation period will also allow to fine-tune the composition of the team and to give some play time to young players like Nadir El Jamali, who shone during this meeting, or Lassana Traoré and Beres Owusu. The ASSE uses these meetings to refine its team before taking up the championship challenge.
