League 1: Relief for OL and call for compliance

The maintenance of Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1 was celebrated by Vincent Labrune, president of the LFP, who insisted on the respect of the rules by all clubs, stressing that no pass-right had been granted to OL despite its history. This decision, made possible by the arrival of additional funds and the commitment of the new leaders Michèle Kang and Michael Gerlinger, was hailed as a relief for the Lyon League and territory. Labrune acknowledged a possible initial misunderstanding between the former management and the DNCG, but expressed satisfaction with the assumption of responsibilities by the new managers.

This situation was also addressed by Olivier Letaing, president of LOSC, who criticized John Textour’s past management and stressed the importance of respecting the rules for the integrity of French football. Letaing claimed that OL’s rescue was beneficial for Ligue 1 and denounced the risky practices that endanger football institutions. The event was widely commented on in the show “As long as there will be Gone”, which highlighted the crucial role of Michèle Kang and Michael Gerlinger in the reversal of the situation.

At the same time, Thiago Mendes, a former OL player, joined CR Vasco da Gama, a Brazilian club. After several successful seasons with OL and a visit to Qatar with Al-Rayyan, the midfielder signed a pre-contract with Vasco, joining a club currently 13th in the Brazilian championship. This return to Brazil marks a new stage in the player’s career, which had previously evolved at Goiás EC and São Paulo FC.
