Olympic Lyonnais maintains its status in Ligue 1 relief and persistent criticism

Following a favourable decision by the FFF Appeal Board, Olympique Lyonnais (OL) will maintain its status in Ligue 1 for next season. This decision brought relief to the supporters of the Bad Gones, who expressed their satisfaction while reaffirming their deep discontent with John Textor’s past management. In a statement, the ultras stressed their pride that the club continues to compete at the highest level, recalling its glorious past and its model of professionalism. However, they also criticized the club’s current ownership structure, which they considered an obstacle to their satisfaction, and denounced John Textor’s continued involvement in OL management.

This news was also welcomed with relief by former Lyon players such as Bafรฉty Gomis, who praised OL’s continued presence in the French football elite. Gomis stressed the importance of OL for the history of the championship and congratulated it for the efforts of the leaders who avoided a demotion. Other former players, such as Houssem Aouar and Rayan Cherki, also expressed their joy at this decision.

On the other hand, OL’s retention in Ligue 1 left a bitter taste at the Stade de Reims, relegated to Ligue 2 after his defeat in the barrage against FC Metz. Rรฉmois President Jean-Pierre Caillot expressed his disappointment that he had never really believed in the possibility of a draft. He pointed out that Lyon shareholders had always covered Textor’s mistakes and that the remois club was already preparing for Ligue 2.
