Valentin Rongier’s future at the Olympique de Marseille is uncertain, and discussions about a contract extension are intensifying. Following Daniel Riolo’s recent criticism of the Marseille management, Kรฉvin Diaz, RMC consultant, defended the club’s strategy. He recalled that OM had made a number of proposals for extensions to Rongeer, which were considered to be higher than the current midfield salary of the Paris FC. Diaz insists that the proposed remuneration is in line with the status of Ligue 1 manager, while stressing the financial constraints of the club.
According to Kรฉvin Diaz, Olympique de Marseille tried to extend Rongier by offering him as much as possible within his budget, while maintaining his role as a manager within the team. He stressed the economic reality of football, explaining that if Rongier refused these proposals, the club would be forced to sell it after his contract in 2026. Diaz recognizes the sporting value of Rongier, describing him as an interesting and well-rated player in Ligue 1, and insists that an extension with a salary of this level is in no way a lack of consideration on the part of OM.
In this context, the future of Rongier remains uncertain. If the player does not review his requirements down, a start this summer is not to be excluded. OM could then consider selling it to avoid leaving the club in 2026, in accordance with the economic rules of the market. Sunderland seems obviously interested, just as the Paris FC explored other options for the player. The situation highlights the difficulty for clubs like OM to offer attractive salaries to retain valuable players, especially in the face of competition from teams like Milan or the club of the same name.
