Nicolas de Tavernost appointed head of LFP Media

The recent appointment of Nicolas de Tavernost as head of LFP MEDIA was formalized last Wednesday by the Board of Directors of the Professional Football League. The former president of the M6 Group has expressed his enthusiasm for his new mission, which consists of working closely with all French and CVC professional clubs to develop and succeed the French championships.

However, this appointment comes in a context marked by a complaint against Vincent Labrune, president of the Professional Football League, and an emerging conflict between the LFP and sports betting operators. According to the association Stop Homophobia, the official account of Ligue 1 broadcasted a video containing homophobic statements made by supporters during the derby between AS Saint-ร‰tienne and Olympique Lyonnais. Vincent Labrune is identified as the editor of the Instagram account.

The LFP stated that it was astonished by this complaint, which follows the unfortunate broadcast of a video clip containing discriminatory statements made by supporters, and that the content was deleted as soon as it was identified. However, this is not the only controversy in which the LFP is located. Indeed, it is already in conflict with DAZN, its main broadcaster, which claims more than 500 million euros.

Recently, the LFP decided to increase the bet entitlement from 1 to 2% from the 2025-2026 season. Each year, online betting companies return 1% of the stakes on football to the LFP, which holds between 8 and 9 million euros. However, this sudden increase is not unanimous among the operators of sports betting, who could refer the matter to the competition authority or the courts if a common ground is not found.
