Technical Director of OL suspended for criticism towards arbitrator

Matthieu Louis-Jean, the technical director of Olympique Lyonnais, received a firm suspension for one match and another suspended. As a result, there will be no benches, referee’s locker room and any official duties this weekend. The reason for this punishment? Criticizing Franรงois Letexier’s arbitration at the derby ASSE-OL on 20 April.

The referee had polemically removed the red card from Lucas Stassin, who had been expelled for his attack on Corentin Tolisso. He had also decided to have the game resumed while his assistant had been the victim of a coin jet on his skull. Decisions denied the next day by his superiors.

Matthieu Louis-Jean had not failed to denounce “a scandal” and “a catastrophic arbitration of Franรงois Letexier”. He regretted in particular “a kind of arrogance” on the part of the arbitrator. When asked by the journalists after the game lost in Geoffroy-Guichard (2-1), he said: “It has to be explained,” before concluding: “I try to be honest, I criticize but I hope it will be constructive.”.
