Greifs in Ligue 1 and tribute to Umtiti Lyon ready for Angers SCO

Olympique Lyonnais will face the Angers SCO this Friday with some significant changes in its workforce. Rémy Descamps’ injury paves the way for Domiink Greifs, a goaltender who arrived from Majorca, to become the first Ligue 1 title. Coach Paulo Fonseca expressed his confidence in Greifs, highlighting his ability to communicate, his technical progress and his responsiveness. Fonseca also mentioned the possibility of including Martin Satriano, an attacker “ready to help”, as well as Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez or Enzo Molebe, in order to adapt the team’s game against the Angers’ low block defence. He stressed the need for a greater presence in the repair surface and the importance of giving these young players an opportunity to play to assess their potential.

In parallel, Paulo Fonseca paid tribute to Samuel Umtiti, recently retired, describing him as an “exceptional person” and a professional who overcame difficult periods of injury. The coach believes that Umtiti has a promising future as a coach and is an example to follow. Umtiti, who spent much of his career at Olympique Lyonnais, chose not to retire immediately from football and joined DAZN as a consultant, commenting on Serie A meetings and participating in multi-sport shows.

Following the defeat against Rennes (3-1), Paulo Fonseca expressed frustration at the loss of the ability to press high, which gave much space to the opposing team. He stressed that the team had worked to improve and that it was important to continue working with this dynamic. The press conference also highlighted the team’s determination to overcome the difficulties and focus on the next match against the Angers, with the hope that Domiink Greifs could prove its worth and that the team could continue to make progress.
