The coming end of the agreement between DAZN and the Professional Football League is approaching. According to L’Equipe, an agreement was reached between the two parties to terminate the current Ligue 1 broadcasting contract. The British platform will no longer broadcast eight of the nine championship games next season.
The discussions resulted in a breach of the lease against an allowance of EUR 100 million and the payment of the last two maturities (€140 million) of the current financial year. This agreement has yet to be validated by the league’s board of directors on Friday, May 2.
The Professional Football League, under the leadership of Nicolas de Tavernost, is working on a new project: the creation of its own 100% Ligue 1 antenna for next season and the following seasons. This channel will allow the LFP to probe the market to find a new partner, which could be Canal+, Max or even DAZN.
If DAZN wishes to establish itself in the French sports environment on a sustainable basis, it will have to give up the EUR 100 million allowance originally provided for in the agreement. Nicolas de Tavernost must therefore find the best possible alternative to ensure the future of the diffusion of Ligue 1.
Finally, to launch this channel, it will also be necessary to find an agreement with beIN Sports, which holds the ninth and last poster of each day, that of Saturday afternoon (17h).
