Administrative error: AS Saint-Étienne risks 12 penalty points for aligning Mamadou Konté

The AS Saint-Étienne could be sanctioned for aligning his winter recruit Mamadou Konté, former Sarcelles player. An administrative error that could jeopardize his hopes of qualifying for playoffs. Arriving at the ASSE from Sarcelles, Mamadou Konté could become despite him the symbol of an administrative error with potentially heavy consequences, as emphasized by Le Progrès. What’s the matter? The player was registered with the Federation under the name “Mamadou” Konté by the ASSE, his real name appearing on his official papers, while he was previously playing in Sarcelles under the name “Mama” Konté. Two identities, but the same date of birth. This duplicate licence would not have been merged when it changed its club. The Federal Commission for Regulations and Litigation (CFRC) was seized at the request of the Olympique de Rovenain (team of the Marseilles suburbs that operates in the same hen as the ASSE) to study this case, considered by some as an administrative error, by others as a defect of form with significant consequences. If the CFRC were to correct the complainants, the AS Saint-Étienne could be punished for aligning a player who was found to be administratively ineligible on the last three matches: against Montpellier, Colomiers and Olympique Rovenain. The Greens would then risk losing these green carpet matches, 9 points removed (3 wins). Worse still, a penalty point could be added for each offence found. The total would therefore reach 12 penalty points. A real earthquake when Frédéric Dugand’s players had their destiny in hand to qualify for the playoffs. Such a sanction would definitely bury the Stéphanian hopes of fighting the final phase in May. According to our information, ASSE explained the situation to the federation on Friday. The club highlights the fact that the player is now dismissed under his true identity, Mamadou Konté, in accordance with his official civil status documents. For the Stéphanois leaders, this would be an administrative adjustment, in no case a desire to fraud or circumvent the rules. The problem of mutation can be mentioned but the club only has the former Sarcelles player under mutation. Thus, the club ranks in relation to the number of players under transfer with its U19 team. The CFRC’s decision, which is expected in the coming weeks before the start of the playoffs (weekend of 18 May), is now pending.
