Part jet: support in custody

Incident at Geoffroy-Guichard: a supporter of the ASSE placed in custody after a play throw on an arbitrator

Saint-Étienne - The tension was at its peak Sunday night during the derby between the AS Saint-Étienne and the Olympique Lyonnais, won by the Greens on the score of 2-1. An extra-sports incident tarnished the victory and led to the questioning of an ASSE supporter.

According to information from the “Progress*”, a 28-year-old man, residing in Saint-Étienne, was placed in police custody on Monday, April 21. He is suspected of throwing a coin on an assistant referee on the key during the meeting. The inquiry took place at the end of the game at the foot of the North Gallery.

The investigation, conducted by the Interdepartmental Directorate of the Loire Police, aims to determine whether this man is the author of the jet. The identification of the suspect was made possible by the video surveillance cameras at Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium.

This act, which is described as voluntary violence in a sports arena, is punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of 45,000 euros.

The reaction of the Saint-Étienne AS was rapid. The club has announced its intention to file a complaint and is considering a trade ban against the respondent. In an already tense context concerning the club’s ultras groups, which have recently been threatened with dissolution, the Directorate of l’Asse does not seem to want to ignore the situation.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) will vote on the issue this Wednesday evening through its Commission de Discipline.
