Origi: A Declining Career and Uncertain Future in Milan

Ten years ago Divock Origi left the LOSC for Liverpool, starting a promising stage in his career. The Belgian striker, addicted by Jürgen Klopp who called him a club legend, then joined AC Milan in the hope of winning a title. Unfortunately, this ambition did not succeed, with only two goals and a decisive pass in 36 matches. Today, as he approaches his thirtieth birthday, the player seems to have disappeared from the radar, raising serious questions in Italy about his future, and AC Milan, through its leaders such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, clearly indicated that he was not part of the sports project, relegating him to the club’s reserve.

After a period of remoteness and a unsuccessful loan to Nottingham Forest, Divock Origi refused the proposals of clubs wishing to welcome him, unlike his former team-mate Fodé Ballo-Touré who regained colors in Le Havre. Milan has tried, without success, to offer it to various formations, both in Italy and abroad, faced with a categorical refusal by the player. Nor did the interests of Turkish and Arab clubs succeed, as the player seemed determined to extend his stay in Italy, probably for tax reasons. His situation has become such that he was not even wished a happy birthday by AC Milan, with the exception of the LOSC which has kept a certain nostalgia.

Divock Origi is currently bound to AC Milan by a contract which will not end until June 2026, preventing the club from taking steps to put an end to this situation. The attacker shows no sign of wanting to give up his exile, and the transfer period of January did not change that. The Italian press is ironic about an inescapable situation, although it will not be resolved soon, stressing that the last terrain where he was seen dates back almost a year, and that he has not worn the Milanese jersey for almost two years.
