The dispute between the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) and the DAZN broadcaster is taking a bitter turn, with the contractual breach of the contract now appearing to be compromised. Following the decision of the board of directors of the LFP to terminate its agreement with the British platform, despite the contractual commitments that bind them until 2029, DAZN expressed its rejection of the terms of this termination. This impasse, underlined by Le Figaro, highlights the absence of an amicable solution, despite attempts to mediate orchestrated by the Paris Economic Court.
The conciliation efforts, initially promising, ended in a failure as DAZN rejected a settlement proposal made by the mediator and accepted by the LFP. This paradoxical situation, as indicated by a source close to the LFP, sees the broadcaster, claiming mediation himself and being in default of payment, refusing the proposal that would have closed the dispute at the end of the current season. The broadcaster expressed its regret at this blockage, regretting the inability to sufficiently reconcile views after four months of negotiations, including a month and a half dedicated to mediation.
The prospect of litigation is now expected, with DAZN claiming compensation of EUR 573 million, alleging default and deception on the goods. Despite this escalation, significant financial deadlines, amounting to approximately 140 million euros, remain due by DAZN to the LFP for the months of April and June. The resolution of this conflict, which involves considerable sums and undermines the future of the spread of the League 1, remains uncertain.
