Proposed extension of the name of the Groupama Stadium and OL football perspectives

Lyon fans can hear good news about the Groupama Stadium, whose name could be extended for years to come. Negotiations are under way between OL and Groupama to renew their partnership, which started in 2017 and generated 6.9 million euros per year. This prospect comes after a period of doubt, as Groupama initially announced that he was not renewing the contract. The discussions are in the final phase, suggesting the possibility of keeping the emblematic name of the stadium and training centre.

OL recently escaped the administrative relegation thanks to an action before the DNACG, a relief expressed by the journalists of Olympique-et-Lyonnais.com and the former Rhododian player Nicolas Puydebois. A special programme was devoted to this situation, addressing the context for this outcome, the arrival of the new duo of leaders Michele Kang and Michael Gerlinger, and the club’s sporting ambitions. OL wants to reduce its payroll while remaining competitive to aim for top-of-the-board, a task that will be challenging.

The 2025-2026 season of Premiรจre Ligue will start on the weekend of September 6, with an opening match at home against Marseille. The calendar is loaded, including a derby against Saint-Etienne on 19 or 20 September and a shock against Paris Saint-Germain on 27 or 28 September. OL will also face Paris FC in November and PSG in January and February 2026. The classification phase will end on 6 May 2026, followed potentially by the semi-finals and the First League Final in May. The return to training is scheduled for July 21.
