Stade Rennais: reconstruction and European ambition

After a disappointing 2024-2025 season, marked by a fight against relegation and a lack of European ambition, Stade Rennais is at a crossroads. The team, ranked twelfth in League 1, left behind a year to forget, causing a strong sense of frustration among supporters. The club now faces the need to rebuild, with a mixed recruitment record and important challenges to be addressed. The aim is to restore the level of excellence achieved in the past and to make Europe a regular reality.

To meet this challenge, Stade Rennais has undertaken significant changes in its staff. Loïc Désiré was appointed sports director, succeeding Frederic Massaara, in a desire to redefine the recruitment strategy. The priority is to strengthen the team with “Ligue 1” players, while focusing on the development of young talent from the training centre, known for its quality. The coach, Aimar Pouille, aims to reduce the strength and redefine the tactical device, exploring various defensive options and integrating more players from the “peinière”.

Beyond the technical aspects, the club must work on its “rennais context”, i.e. the internal atmosphere, trust and support of the public. After two seasons without Europe and a period of instability, Stade Rennais needs to regain popular fervour and project itself towards the future. The task is expected to be arduous, but the club has the means to succeed in its transformation. The time has come for the takeover, and the fans hope to see a team able to make them dream again with European evenings.
