Marseille Olympic: defensive reinforcement and strategic sales

The Olympique de Marseille focuses its efforts on strengthening its defensive sector during this summer mercato. The name Joël Ordóñez comes back insistently, negotiations with the Brugge Club being relaunched and the player showing a strong will to join OM. This potential recruit, a 20-year-old Equinatorian defender, has been actively targeted for several weeks by the Marseille recruitment cell. The Brugge Club, aware of OM’s interest, is already exploring other defensive tracks, pointing to the importance of this issue and the possibility of an agreement if positions come closer. For Roberto De Zerbi, the arrival of Ordóñez would bring reinforcement and competition in the axis, and the next days will be crucial for the realization of this transfer.

At the same time, the future of Jonathan Rowe, an English winger who arrived at OM last year, is uncertain. Several European clubs, including Atalanta Bergame, AS Roma, Fenerbahçe and Premier League formations, closely follow his situation. Stade Rennais, after strengthening its staff, is also among the contenders. Although OM does not wish to separate itself from Rowe, significant funds could be generated through its sale, allowing for the financing of other operations. This potential divestment is seen as a strategic necessity, notably to repay purchasing options and invest in the recruitment of other key players.

In addition to the Ordóñez track, OM also continues to search for a left side. De Zerbi made it clear that this position is a priority and that a recruit is expected. The sale of players such as Rowe and potentially Derek Cornelius (for 5 million euros) and Pol Lirolaa could therefore be a prerequisite for finalizing these transfers. The aim is to complete the defensive puzzle of the team and prepare for the future, with Ordóñez considered to be Leonardo Balerdi’s long-term potential successor. The Mercato Marseilles will therefore conclude on the club’s ability to carry out a major sale in order to strengthen its workforce.
