Sage aspires to a return coach favouring the English Championship

In a recent interview with the newspaper The Athletic, Pierre Sage expressed his desire to quickly return to a coaching position next season, ideally within an English club. Following his departure from Olympique Lyonnais on 27 January, initiated by John Textor, the former Gones coach took advantage of this interview to return to his experience in Lyon and reveal his professional ambitions. He has clearly indicated his desire to take over the leadership of a team, whether in France or in another European country, favouring the five main championships of the continent, and revealing a particular inclination for English football, which he considers to be the most prestigious and of quality.

The attraction for the second English division, the Championship, is particularly marked, suggesting an opening to less mediated but promising opportunities. This statement, perceived as a call from the foot, could generate an over-many interest, especially as the Championship coaching market is known for its dynamism and rebounds. Pierre Sage also shared his growing motivation, stressing the importance of meeting new challenges, drawing on the words of José Mourinho, who considers that the true coaching career often begins with a first layoff.

Despite his vision for the future, Pierre Sage did not conceal the pain associated with his departure from Olympique Lyonnais, stressing the difficulty of leaving a club that is dear to him. However, he claimed to have respect for his former owner, John Textor, recognizing that the choice of another coach, Paulo Fonseca, could facilitate the acquisition of additional investments and the overall improvement of the club, an opportunity that Textor ardently wanted.
