Saint-Étienne opposes the export of matches to the dilution of football identity

The ultras bands Green Angels 92 and Magic Fans 91, figures of the AS Saint-Étienne fans scene, joined the association Football Supporters Europe (FSE) in the “You Can’t Export Passion” campaign. Their goal is to oppose the desire of the Liga and Serie A to organize official games outside their home countries, including in the United States and Australia. This initiative is seen by the Stéphanois supporters as a new attempt to devalue football, already initiated by the financialization and industrialization of sport. They claim that football belongs to their supporters and that this initiative runs counter to the popular and local values that constitute the identity of football, values that the Stéphanois supporters live on a daily basis in the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. They see this drift as a lack of respect and a leak of club identity, fearing that it will pave the way for events that are increasingly distant and disconnected from local communities.

Apart from this mobilization, Maxime Bernauer, ASSE defender, played the entire game against Grenoble, returning from an injury and occupying an unusual position on the left side. Despite a frustrating draw (1-1) where he was involved in the action leading to the opposing goal, Bernauer showed lucidity after the meeting, stressing the importance of his versatility for the team, which remains undefeated after four days. His coach, Eirik Horneland, is planning to titularize him again in the same role against Clermont. At the same time, Naoufaan Mnemoi, a 15-year-old central defender, is a great hope of ASSE, compared to Wesley Fofana. Trained in Marseille and passed through Aix-en-Provence’s hope pole, he has already demonstrated an exemplary state of mind, remarkable combativity and promising technical and tactical potential.

This player, described as a “warrior” by his former coach, has already integrated the club’s plans and played his first minutes with Team U17 in a match against Olympique de Valence. His journey, marked by daily rigour and his ability to work tirelessly, bears witness to his ambition to become a pillar of his generation. The ASSE, together with Mnemoi, may well find a new nugget formed in the Forez. Its current objective is to progress step by step and to establish itself as a reference defender, embodying the spirit of combativity and excellence that characterizes the history of AS Saint-Étienne.
