Nicolas de Taveernost at the head of LFP Media: a new stage for relations with Canal+

Paris, France - The arrival of Nicolas de Taveernost as head of LFP Media marks a potential turning point in relations between the LFP and the Canal+ group. The 74-year-old former president of M6 and the Girondins de Bordeaux formalized his departure from BFM-TV/RMC, where he held the position of CEO since July 2, 2024, to take over from Benjamin Morel, who left his post at the end of February.

This appointment comes in a context of continuing tensions around the TV rights contract with Amazon, signed between 2021 and 2024 for an amount of 250 million euros per season.

According to Maxime Saada, Executive Board of the LFP, Taveernost’s arrival is seen as a major asset to improve dialogue with Canal+, an essential partner for Ligue 1. “To put him around the table as an interlocutor is a good way to get me back on the subject of League 1. We can talk to him and I will,” he told the team.

However, Saada remains cautious. “But I don’t forget the damage caused to us in the previous contract,” he said, referring to the ongoing legal dispute. He also insisted that “the descent is not over for League 1”, suggesting that the challenges ahead are numerous despite the presence of an experienced leader like Taveernost. The future of the relationship between LFP and Canal+, and by extension, of Ligue 1, therefore remains uncertain.
