Crystal Palace challenges UEFA Lyon in court

The Crystal Palace FC has initiated legal proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) against UEFA, Nottingham Forest and Olympique Lyonnais (OL). The English club, initially qualified for the Europa League following its victory in the FA Cup, was downgraded in favour of OL due to a multi-club ownership rule. This UEFA decision, motivated by the presence of joint actions between the two clubs, led the Crystal Palace to apply for readmission to the Europa League, while demanding the rejection of Nottingham Forest’s admission to the League Conference. Alternatively, the club proposes its readmission to the Conference League with the rejection of OL. The purpose of this legal action is to set aside UEFA’s decision and win the case, with a hearing scheduled before August 11.

OL officially launched their subscription campaign for the 2025-2026 season, starting on 23 July. Subscribers from the previous year can renew their card until 29 July, while new fans can register from 30 July. Although the dates have been communicated, the rates have not yet been announced. OL has also made significant progress in the European rankings, standing as the second French club in front of OM, thanks to its past performances in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. The club hopes to continue earning points to improve its ranking, sharing the record number of European points with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Lyon club strengthened its staff with the arrival of Afonso Moreira, a 20-year-old Portuguese winger from the Sporting Clube Portugal. The transfer amounts to EUR 2 million, with a 20% clause on possible capital gains. Moreira has signed a four-year contract and is considered a promising recruit for OL. In addition, OL received positive news about Georges Mikautadze’s state of health, the Georgian pre-centre, which should be available for the upcoming preparation games. However, Lucas Perri, the goaltender, suffered a slight injury and was absent for two weeks.
