Crisis at OM Acherchour calls for clear consolidation and leadership

In the wake of the internal crisis triggered by the Rabiot-Rowe case, Walid Acherchour insists on the imperative need to consolidate the Marseille institution. He acknowledged the pain of a possible departure, but recalled that the Olympique de Marseille must first and foremost preserve its identity and affirm its demand, beginning with those who embody its direction. Acherchour highlights the often hidden dimension of the political game that surrounds some key players, highlighting a policy that is sometimes excessively present in decisions concerning players. He expressed a sense of tear in the face of Adrien Rabiot’s situation, but felt that a separation could paradoxically strengthen the collective’s cohesion, particularly around the figure of Roberto De Zerbi.

Acherchour’s analysis extends to the responsibility of Mehdhi Benatia, whom he considers to be directly targeted by the crisis, and calls for unwavering rigour on the part of the institution. He believes that the problem lies in the fact that this institution has been flouted by some people, and that the offence suffered by De Zerbi should in no way be minimized in the name of the changing balance. On the contrary, it should serve as a catalyst to restore a clear and lasting vision of the Marseille project. Acherchour also highlights the limits of authority within the club, stating that no one, except McCourt, can dismiss Longoria.

Finally, Acherchour urges leaders and staff to learn from this crisis. He insists on the need for Longoria and Benatia to be more thoughtful and to draw inspiration from past events. He defends the idea of clear leadership, based on consistency of decision and rigour of internal relations, rather than affect. For him, OM can only make progress if its collective requirement is fully met. He is convinced that the strength of a locker room rests on a coherent hierarchy and transparency of decisions, and that sanctioning an influential player would not be a weakness, but rather a demonstration of the club’s strength and credibility.
