The Greens Deboulonne at the Montaigu Tournament: A First Victory Facing RC Lens
The Montaigu Tournament, a reference competition for French training centres, saw the promising launch of the Green Youth Campaign. Last Friday, the AS Saint-Étienne won a major victory against RC Lens (1-0), a poster still contested in the young categories.
Placed in a competitive group, the Stéphanois U16, supervised by Kevin De Jésus, immediately demonstrated their ambition. Their first game against RC Lens was a clear success. As early as the quarter hour of the game, Nathan Kasia turned a penalty in cold blood, opening the score for the Greens. The first half ended on this 1-0 score.
The second period confirmed the control of the ASSE. Mahé Royet took advantage of a bad recovery in Lansoise to score and make the break. Despite a penalty granted by Assoumani two minutes from the term, the Greens were able to resist and maintain their lead.
However, the rest of the weekend was more contrasted. The Greens were surprised by FC Nantes, which opened the score. Matheis Piskor allowed the Greens to return to the same point. Finally, Lens beat the Nice GOC on the 1-0 score.
A draw or victory against Nice would guarantee the qualification of the Stéphanois U16 for the tournament semifinals. Qualifying is now assured thanks to the draw against Nice.
