John Texto orchestrated two transfers for his club, Olympique Lyonnais, before leaving the city. It was the acquisition of the Danilo midfielder for 25 million euros and goaltender Matt Turner for 8 million euros. However, the transfer of Turner creates financial difficulties for OL, as its high cost could compromise the rest of the club’s recruitment, especially after the financial sanctions imposed by the DNCG (National Management Control Directorate). Efforts are currently under way, led by a specialist lawyer hired by OL, to cancel this agreement, citing in particular the club’s change of management and the budgetary restrictions imposed by the DNCG.
At the same time, Gaรซtan Perrin, a 29-year-old attacker, continues his career by joining FC Krasnodar in Russia for three seasons, against an allowance of 5 million euros. After four seasons in Auxerre, he is about to discover a new team after having played in several French clubs, including Orlรฉans and AJ Auxerre, where he won the Ligue 2 in 2024. Although he had few opportunities at Olympique Lyonnais in 2016, he has established himself as a high-quality player in Ligue 2, especially as the best passer of last season.
John Texto, although he no longer has an official role in Olympique Lyonnais, remains a source of information for the Lyon media, particularly concerning the DNCG and mercato. He was very close to Evangelos Marinakis, owner of Nottingham Forest, and apparently negotiated the transfer of Matt Turner before OL obtained the approval of the DNCG. This situation raises concerns about OL’s ability to comply with financial rules and to carry out its recruitment operations, especially since Danilo’s transfer has finally materialised to Botafogo, thus avoiding additional complications.
