League 1: A weekend at stake with the derby Saint-Étienne – OL in closing
The French football championship experienced a weekend rich in rebounds, marked by several derbys and crucial confrontations for the fight for European squares.
Day 30 of Ligue 1 started this Friday with the Western derby, between Stade Rennais and FC Nantes. The Britons, led by Habib Beyequi, won this animated 2-1 meeting thanks to goals of Truffert and, above all, Meite in the last minutes. Mostafa Mohamed allowed the Nantais to return to the score. This victory, the second consecutive for the Rennais, temporarily placed them in 10th place in the championship.
This Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain easily defeated Le Havre AC 2-1, confirming a second consecutive defeat for Les Havarais. Later that day, AS Monaco made a 0-0 draw against RC Strasbourg, a key result in the qualifying race for the Champions League. The second period was particularly lively.
Finally, Olympique de Marseille dominated Montpellier HSC 5-1. Thanks to this success, the Olympians returned to second place in the standings just before the AS Monaco.
This Sunday, the calendar looks dense with five games. At 15:00, Lille will host Auxerre on DAZN. Simultaneously, Nice – Angers, Brest – Lens and Reims – Toulouse will also compete on DAZN. The weekend will end with the rhônalpin derby between Saint-Étienne and Lyon, broadcast at 8:45 pm on DAZN.
