Arrival of Jaber: promising defensive reinforcement for ASSE

Mahmoud Jaber, 25-year-old midfielder, joined ASSE in June, becoming the club’s first summer recruit. Trained and revealed to the Haifa Maccabi, he is about to discover League 2 after a solid season in Israel, where he has accumulated more than 2200 minutes of play. Its profile, characterized by superior defensive intensity and constant activity, could fill the lack of impact and control observed in the Stรฉphanois interplay, an area that suffered defensively last season. Compared to other club circles, Jaber is distinguished by his ability to recover the ball, to re-launch properly and to cause mistakes, qualities that could bring a crucial balance to the team.

The arrival of Jaber is part of the ASSE’s strategy, led by Eirik Horneland, to strengthen the strength with players adapted to high and intense cleaning. He is seen as an athletic and financially accessible player, able to fill the gaps in the midfield. His European experience, particularly in the Champions League and the Europa Conference League, could also be a valuable asset for the changing room. However, like other recent recruits, his adaptation to the pace and demands of Ligue 2 remains unknown.

In his first summer preparation match against the Carouge Star, Jaber showed encouraging signs, gradually imposing himself in the match. Positioned a step below Florian Tardieu and Paul Eymard, he distinguished himself by his presence in recovery, his sense of placement and his good initiatives. Its use as a sentinel, temporarily replacing Pierre Ekwah, aims to cover other environments and balance the game between defense and attack. Although he still needs time to fully recover from physical preparation, his first performance suggests a promising potential for ASSE.
