Murillo anchor in Marseille a precious defensive pillar

Amir Murillo, who arrived at the Olympique de Marseille in August 2023, quickly established himself as a pillar of Roberto De Zerbi’s defence. The Italian coach considers him an exemplary professional player and wishes to build the future of the team around him. During the 2024-2025 season, Murillo played 30 games in Ligue 1, 37 of them as a gamer, totalling 3,547 minutes of play. Its versatility allows him to occupy various positions, including right rear, lateral and even central defence defender in three-way defence, integrating perfectly with De Zerbi’s preferred tactical schemes.

Despite persistent rumours about him and the interests of Premier League clubs, OM’s current intention is to retain him. Management appreciates its reliability, judging it to be superior to Pol Lirola, especially for competition at the law side. This confidence is reflected in a desire to sustain his stay at the club. In his career, Murillo has already played 316 games, with 25 goals and 30 assists, for a total of 25,675 minutes, reflecting his offensive impact and his ability to bring real added value to the game’s construction.

Under contract until June 2028, Amir Murillo is a key element of the defensive reconstruction initiated by De Zerbi. Its estimated value between 9 and 10 million euros makes it a valuable asset for OM. With his professionalism, he seems determined to stay in Marseille and to embody the defensive stability of the Phocéan project. However, according to Provence, the Marseille club is currently looking for a more efficient competitor than Pol Lirola for the right side position.
