KiKi Kouyaté joins Royal Antwerp FC for new challenge

Boubakaar “KiKi” Kouyaté, a 28-year-old central defender, officially left MHSC and France to join the Royal Antwerp FC in Belgium. Arrived in Montpellier in January 2023 from FC Metz for an estimated amount of 6 million euros, the player was at the end of the contract, his agreement running until 30 June 2026. This transfer marks the end of his transition to La Paillade and a new chapter in his professional career.

The Royal Antwerp FC, a resident club of the Jupiler Pro League (first Belgian division), sealed this transfer without any financial details being made public. According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the MHSC should receive bonuses related to the transaction and would also have negotiated a share on a possible future gain from the player.

Kouyaté, a Malian international with 33 selections, signed a one-year contract with the Belgian club, valid until 30 June 2026, with an option for a second year. This new contract represents a challenge for the defender, who seeks to revive his career after his visit to Montpellier.
