OM : Back to second place

Marseille returns to second place with a brilliant victory over Montpellier

The Vélodrome vibrated this Sunday in an overwhelming victory of the Olympique de Marseille (5-1) against Montpellier, relegation to Ligue 1. This victory enabled Roberto De Zerbi’s men to return to second place in the standings and revive their European ambitions.

The meeting, marked by a clear dominance of OM, confirmed the club’s renewed confidence after a period of irregular results. Coach Roberto De Zerbi stressed the importance of focusing on positive aspects, despite some shortcomings in collective performance.

“It wasn’t an easy match, not given, given the negative moment we’ve been through lately,” De Zerbi said at a post-game press conference. “But it’s normal, a season lasts ten months.” He also highlighted the pride of his players and recognized their ability to challenge themselves.

The MHSC, already almost condemned to relegation, did not oppose significant resistance.

To prepare for the next match against Brest, Roberto De Zerbi announced an intensive training period with the participation of Pablo Longoria and Medhi Benatia. This initiative, aimed at better identifying objectives and expectations, is seen as an added value to the club.

With five goals scored, the OM demonstrated its offensive effectiveness against an adversary in difficulty. The next match against Brest will be considered another final for the Marseillais, who will have to confirm this dynamic against an opponent of a completely different calibre. In a final sprint where each point will count, the Olympique de Marseille is back in the race in European squares.
