Prohibition of movement of supporters in the face of football tensions

In a context of particularly tense football matches, where the teams of Olympique Lyonnais and Montpellier Herault Sport Club are preparing for complex trips, a major administrative decision was made this Thursday. The Ministry of the Interior has formally banned the displacement of Lyon and Montpellierans supporters, thus confirming an already palpable expectation within the supporters’ communities. This prohibition, formalized by two decrees published in the Official Journal, applies to the meetings of the thirtieth day of Ligue 1, between MHSC and Olympique de Marseille and OL and AS Saint-ร‰tienne.

This restrictive measure, justified by the authorities, stems from a historical context of deep rivalry between the Lyon and Montpellierans supporters. Ministerial orders highlight animosity and significant antagonism, frequently leading to serious incidents involving law enforcement. The ban extends from midnight to midnight, and is intended to prevent any individual or collective movement of persons presenting themselves as supporters or acting as supporters between the departments concerned.

As a result, fans of both clubs will not be able to travel to Saint-ร‰tienne or Marseille to support their teams. This decision, while predictable, underscores the seriousness of the existing tensions and the government’s commitment to prevent any disturbance to public order at these crucial meetings of the season. The authorities hope to ensure the safety of the players, spectators and law enforcement personnel involved in these sporting events.
