OL experienced a significant transfer with the departure of Lucas Perrin to Leeds United, a decision driven mainly by financial considerations. After a year and a half at the club, the goaltender was sold for an allowance of almost 10 million euros, representing an added value for OL who had initially invested more than six million. This sale is seen as a sports loss, despite points to improve, but it helps strengthen the financial situation of the club and satisfy the requirements of the DNCG, which will recover the entire amount. Initially Botafogo was to receive a larger share of the compensation, but OL had already paid an additional sum to increase the total amount of the transaction.
At the same time, the Paulo Fonseca team made a friendly against the RWDM Brussels, which allowed the coach to evaluate a team composition closer to what might be envisaged for the coming season. Despite potential absences and sometimes experimental tactical choices, OL has demonstrated some mastery and a solid collective game, notably thanks to the involvement of young players like Khalis Merahd. Fonseca stressed the courage and determination of the players, even those who did not have much time to play last season, and expressed satisfaction with the team’s reaction to the adverse pressure.
The coach particularly appreciated the collective service game and the team’s ability to adapt to the different phases of the game. Young players like Ruben Kluivert and Lassine Diawara confirmed their qualities, while the speed of Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez and Afonso Moreira allowed to enjoy the spaces left by the German team. This preparation allowed OL to approach Innsbruck’s internship with renewed confidence, having set up a competitive team capable of offering an interesting game.
