Beres Owusu hope of ASSE ready to hatch

Beres Owusu, a 21-year-old right-wing central defender, was noticed this season after being loaned to Quevilly-Rouen. Trained in ASSE and having passed through the Forez before professionalizing in 2022, he was able to test himself in National. His atypical profile, able to evolve both in central defence and on the right, is of particular interest to Eirik Horneland, the ASSE coach, who plans to offer him a regular place on the team. Owusu, originally from Val-d’Oise and starting at AS Sarcelles, joined the Stรฉphanois training centre in 2020. Despite expulsion during his adaptation to Quevilly-Rouen, he has always expressed his desire to impose himself on ASSE, a determination welcomed by the current staff.

The young player has athletic qualities and investment intelligence that make him a valuable asset. It can adapt to a four-man defence or a three-man defence, and is capable of reviving the game properly. His former coach at Sarcelles described him as reliable, humble and always determined, qualities that correspond to Horneland’s philosophy, focused on building a young, ambitious and disciplined group. ASSE is actively seeking an alternative to former Paris FC player Maxime Bernauer, who has been tested as a left-wing defender.

The next friendly match against the Servette Geneva could be an opportunity for Owusu to show up again under the watchful eye of the staff. If Bernauer is repositioning to the left to free play time to the right, Owusu could embody the natural solution to this position. In a long and demanding season, bank depth and defence rotation will be crucial. Beres Owusu, long in the shadows, may well surprise and become one of the revelations of Exercise 2025-2026.
