Geïda Fofana takes over Molenbeek to reach the Belgian elite

The team’s reserve coach from Olympique Lyonnais (OL), Gueïda Fofana, is ready to join the Belgian club Molenbeek to try to take the team to the top division. Having dedicated his coaching career to OL, Fofana takes on a new challenge by taking the lead in Molenbeek, who finished third in the Belgian championship this season. The new coach will aim to win the promotion matches (quarter, semifinal and final) to allow the Eagle group club to regain the elite.

Pending the return of Fofana to the head of OL’s reserve team at the end of the season, Pierre Chavrondier is expected to take the interim. OL’s reserve is currently third in its group in National 3 and the climb to National 2 is still possible.

OL owner decided to replace Molenbeek’s coach Yannick Fereira with Gueïda Fofana after the club missed direct entry in the Belgian first division. The French technician will find former Lyon youth such as Ashraf Laâziri and Mohamed El Arouch in the Brussels suburbs.

Fofana’s mission will start on Thursday against Lokeren for the quarter finals go from promotion-relegation dams. In order to succeed the former Lyon midfielder at the head of the reserve, the owner of OL should appoint one of his assistants, Pierre Chavrondier being the favourite.

Recently, the show “As long as there will be gones” addressed OL’s nightmare week, including their elimination in the Europa League against Manchester United and their defeat in the derby against Saint-Etienne. The consultants Enzo Reale and Nicolas Puydebois expressed their exasperation after these two counter-performances and also discussed the arbitration challenged during the derby and the management of the end of the match by Paulo Fonseca.
