The Discipline Commission released its report on an incident on the last day of Ligue 1. This report confirms the fault of goaltender G. Rulli in the match against Monaco, which ended in a 3-0 defeat. Although the meeting was lost, the arbitrator’s decision to award a penalty to the Monegasque attacker, S. Embolo, as a result of that error, was reviewed and validated by the Board, which found the arbitrator’s action relevant and in accordance with the rules of the game. The document states that the Monegasque attacker demonstrated a clear intention to play the ball, with a visible concentration on it, while the Marseille doorman failed to deviate the course, committing a proven fault by touching the left shoulder of the attacker, which caused him to fall.
The Commission’s analysis underlines the arbitrator’s foresight, which not only identified the fault, but also found that there was no “clear opportunity for purpose”, justifying the decision to whistle the penalty. The latter was therefore expected, and no disciplinary sanctions were imposed. The report stresses the rigorous application of the rules of the game and the relevance of the arbitral award, in order to clarify the outline of the incident and to respond to potential disputes.
In addition, the current situation in the Olympique de Marseille is a source of concern and criticism, particularly in the media. Vincent Moscato, during his show on RMC, expressed reservations about the performance of Roberto De Zerbi, OM coach, and suggested a start at the end of the season. This opinion reflects a growing malaise within the club, which had displayed high ambitions for a return to the Champions League, but which now sees its dynamics collapse. The former Rugbyman, who became the host, made an explicit request for a change of direction, stressing the need for decisive action in order to revive the Phocรฉan club.
