Lyon strengthens its workforce and aims for the future in football

Olympique Lyonnais formalized the arrival of Ruben Kluivert, a 24-year-old Dutch national defender from Casa Pia in Portugal. This transfer, estimated at โ‚ฌ3.78 million, includes bonuses and participation on possible future added value. This recruit is part of a defensive reinforcement strategy initiated by coach Paolo Fonseca, who wanted to fill the gaps in the team. Kluivert, trained at Ajax Amsterdam, brings a solid experience gained in Primeira Liga and aims to win in a team aiming for the Europa League. His arrival is OL’s second rookie this season, after Afonso Moreira, and represents a moderate investment in a perceived player for his physical impact, speed and strength in the duels.

At the same time, OL formalized the sale of Jordan Veretout to the Qatari Al-Arabi club for 500,000 euros, with a 50% stake in a future transfer. This sale, expected for several weeks, allows the Lyon club to reduce its payroll, which amounted to 300,000 euros per month for the midfielder. Veretout, who arrived from Olympique de Marseille in 2024, did not manage to win in Lyon for a long time despite 38 appearances from all competitions. Its sale is seen as an important saving for the club, which has favoured cheap recruitment this season.

Finally, the Brazilian national football team is about to secure its place in the semifinals of the Copa Amรฉrica 2025. The Brazilians, as champions of the title and the nation most in the competition, now aim to confirm their position by winning their last game against Colombia. A win or a draw will suffice to ensure their qualification. Player Tarcianne, after being a replacement in previous games, could benefit from this opportunity to get a new title.
