Algerian Women: A historical journey despite pain

Morgane Belkhiter, pillar of the Algerian team, played a key role in the Fennecs’ historical qualification for the quarter finals of the CAN Feminine 2025 in Morocco. Indisputable holder since the beginning of the tournament, the AS Saint-Étienne defender has distinguished herself by her commitment and strength throughout the chicken phase and direct elimination matches. Algeria, undefeated in the chicken phase, managed to overcome Ghana in the quarter-final, an intense match where Morgane Belkhiter was forced to leave the field during the game following a facial injury. Despite this adversity, the team was able to resist and qualify for the shots.

Algeria’s performance throughout the CAN Feminine 2025 testifies to the quality of its game and the strength of its collective. The team, carried by hermetic defense and Morgane Belkhiter’s regularity on its right side, was able to compete with the best African nations. The qualifying for the quarter finals is the result of an exemplary course, marked by tight matches and an ability to overcome difficulties. The contribution of Bekhiter, as a symbol of a promising generation, is undeniable.

Unfortunately, Algeria’s adventure ended in goal shots against Nigeria, after a goalless encounter for 120 minutes. This defeat, though cruel, must not obscure the exploit of the Fennecs, who managed to qualify for the quarterfinals and show their potential on the international stage. Morgane Belkhiter’s performance, as well as that of the team as a whole, suggests a promising future for Algerian women’s football.
