Renaissance in Serie A for Lucas Da Cunha: from rejection to hope
Born in Roanne, born in a Stéphanois family, Lucas Da Cunha has always dreamed of wearing the green jersey of AS Saint-Étienne at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. However, despite his attachment to his hometown and his favourite club, he was not retained by ASSE or other French clubs such as OL or the Pôle Espoir de Dijon.
His journey was sore, but it was finally in Rennes that he found his way. After winning several titles as a U17 and U19 player, he continued his career by multiplying his loans to Lausanne and Clermont before joining the Côme 1907 in Serie B.
Now 23 years old, Lucas Da Cunha has become an accomplished player who flourishes in his Italian club. He tells how he ended up in Como: “I’m in Nice and I don’t have time to play. I’m looking for a new project and with my agents, we find Como. For the moment, it doesn’t talk too much to me at first. And then when I ask myself, I see there are big names like Fabregas who is there as a player, Thierry Henry who is there as a shareholder. So I have to lean on it. And I’m thinking why not, let’s go, experience abroad, let’s go.”
Da Cunha admits that his repositioning in the middle of the field has been accompanied by a valuable mentorship: that of Cesc Fabregas, who greatly influenced his career. “He makes you understand. That you too become a computer,” he explains.
Despite his previous refusals, Da Cunha does not keep one
