Arrived at the Olympique de Marseille during the winter mercato 2025 against the sum of 22 million euros, Amine Gouiri made a strong impression last Sunday by scoring a triple against the Stade Brestois. This performance confirms the hopes placed in him by the management of the Phocéan club. Trained at Olympique Lyonnais and having evolved in Nice and then Rennes, the 25-year-old attacker seems to have found an environment conducive to his development in Marseille.
In comments reported by L’Equipe, Medhi Benatia, OM football director, explains the reasons for his confidence in his player. “I think he can be that top attacker and we want to make him a killer,” he says. The leader highlights the transformation of Gouiri since his arrival in the South. “We don’t let him go, we break his head, but he learned lessons from what happened in Rennes, the way he fell asleep. Here, everything is gathered to keep him awake,” he adds.
The Marseille entourage seems to play an essential role in the revival of the former international Hopes. “There is the atmosphere of the Vélodrome he loves, he is at the angels when he sees the stands. And he is exactly what we want, a pro who arrives before the sessions, goes back a long time later, does his care, keeps a demanding routine,” Benatia explains.
Determined to regain the highest level, Gouiri will have to be consistent in order to impose himself at the top of the Marseille attack. His triple against Brest is a strong signal, but the club expects him to repeat this kind of performance. With the end of the season still open and European objectives in sight, OM may have found in it a decisive asset for the coming weeks.
