The ASSE bows to the RC Strasbourg: the relegation is looming

The ASSE bowed 3-1 against the RC Strasbourg on the 31st day of Ligue 1 and saw precious points fly in the fight for maintenance. At three games at the end of the championship, the Greens are still hanging in 17th place and are even a point behind Le Havre, a barrister.

In his column for Le Progrรจs, Patrick Guillou returns to a meeting where the ASSE quickly conceded the first goal against the second best team in the return phase. The Greens managed to return to the game thanks to Zuriko Davitashvili, but they can regret the many opportunities they had to score and that remained in vain.

The Alsatians were more effective, leading 2-1 then 3-1 before the Greens could react. Eirik Horneland, the ASSE coach, struggles to find the recipe to take points over time and not just during a meeting.

The ASSE must now take the remaining points against Monaco, Reims and Toulouse, while hoping that its direct competitors will take as few points as possible. The fear of relegation is well present in the minds of the Greens, who must lift all blockages to keep themselves in League 1.

The second goal granted by ASSE is an example: loss of the ball at 70 meters of its own goal, followed by 10 assists from the opponent and three reversals of the game. The Greens still have many gaps to fill to ensure their retention in the elite of French football.
