Following the incidents during the match between Olympique de Marseille and Toulouse Football Club, the group of supporters “Les Fanatics” was sanctioned by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP). This decision implies a suspension of a firm match for access to their usual section, located in the upper part of the north corner of the Velodrome Stadium, at the reception of the Stade Brestois on 27 April. This penalty, accompanied by a suspended match, comes after the extensive use of pyrotechnic devices, including smoke, Bengal fires and fireworks, during the celebration of the 37th anniversary of the group of supporters, coinciding with the Marseille victory against Toulouse.
In addition to the use of these devices, the LFP Disciplinary Commission also took into account “observed oral expressions”, referring to songs directed against the governing body and the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau. The latter had recently mentioned the possibility of disbanding certain groups of “Ultras” supporters in the French stadiums, a perspective that has aroused some tension and probably influenced the severity of the sanction. Although the supporters feared a more extensive ban, the closing of the gallery was limited to the only match against Stade Brestois.
With only three remaining home matches for the Olympique de Marseille this season, this suspension represents a significant loss for the group of fans and for the overall atmosphere of home matches. The governing body also offers various subscription options to support the Football Club Marseille site, allowing fans to contribute financially and access exclusive content, while participating in media animation.
